Kissling's 30 Series Bi-stable relays utilize the magnetic coil only to change the position of the plunger, holding it in place is done with a permanent magnet and as such no current is required to hold. The benefit of this is higher efficiency as no current is consumed in holding and as a result of said efficiency less heat is generated, allowing for a higher unit density in a confined area with passive cooling.
